Roger Braunstein + Mims Wright = this blog

Outrageously hard-working co-worker Danny Patterson just released his AS3 Lightweight Remoting Framework into the wild with an MIT license. Hooray! I don’t know if it’s officially the first, but it’s certainly one of the first AS3 open source projects out there. It’s no risky bet to say that we’ll see a lot more AS3 open source starting really soon.

Speaking of which, it’s interesting to see how fast flex apps are starting to appear, or at least be demoed around the new-web-bubble circles. My favorites to watch so far are the buzz-generating Scrapblog and iScrybe apps. Neither of these make a big deal of it, but it’s clear from the demos they’re both taking great advantage of Flex 2. Scrapblog lets you assemble and share scrapbooks assembled from your photos. Mims and I may be posting more about this one in the future. iScrybe is a PIM app with some really neat UIs. You can tell from the beta videos of these guys that there are definitely flex coders on the team enjoying tooling around the flex framework, creating custom components and pushing the limits of the effects and layout engines. Really quality stuff (that would clearly take a bit longer to code in AJAX, oops sorry forget I said that).

Site update: Mims is in New Orleans being a wolf dandy for halloween (brilliant!) and I’m finishing up writing a bit on Flex which I will post about super-soon. We’ll post more very soon.
